Epilepsy During the Holidays

What has been your experience with managing epilepsy and/or seizures during the holiday season?

If this is your first holiday season with epilepsy, please ask our other community members questions that you may have!

We are grateful that you have joined this community!

  1. I haven't had a seizure in nearly 13 years (13 years New Year's Day actually) and I have to remember to take my meds as they keep me seizure free. I rarely drink and because of my mental health I try to get 7 hours minimum for sleep

    1. wishing you a happy holiday season and many more seizure free years🩷. All my best, Julie ( team member)

  2. I take my medicine, avoid stress and anxiety, I don't drink alcohol, I avoid strobe lights. I don't do this just around the holidays. I do this all the time.

  3. I try to just relax and remember to take my medicine every morning and before I go to bed. My wife and I both have epilepsy. I haven't had a seizure since 1997 and I have been driving since 2002.
My wife and I both take phenobarbital for seizure control, although she has another medicine for it as well. A couple of years ago she had an operation for a DVM device that is in her brain and she has to have a pacemaker. It's been working out well for her. She's only had a couple of seizures in her sleep. The seizures she has are only once or twice a month. So, relax and remember to take your medicine.

  4. I have problems with my head in the morning. Nobody asks what's the matter. It depends on my brother's epilepsy not mine.
